cmsspot vs Squarespace

Squarespace or your own site? What you give up for the convenience

Squarespace bundles design, hosting and editing into one subscription. You never touch code, and you never own the result. cmsspot takes the opposite route: the site is yours, on your host, in files you can read, and cmsspot only adds the editing.

Where Squarespace is the right choice

If nobody on the project can write HTML, the site has to be live tomorrow, and a template that looks like a thousand other sites is fine, Squarespace is hard to beat. The templates are well made, the editor is friendly, and hosting, SSL and updates are handled for you.

Where a hand-built site with cmsspot is the right choice

If an agency builds the site, the template is not the point; the design is. A hand-built site can look exactly as designed, loads a fraction of the scripts a Squarespace page loads, and runs on hosting that costs a few euros a month. With cmsspot the owner still edits text and images in the browser, so the convenience is kept without renting the site forever.

What cmsspot actually solves

Squarespace solves two problems at once: it removes the need for a developer, and it removes the need for the owner to understand code. cmsspot only solves the second one, on purpose. The developer builds the site once, the way the client wants it, and the client then edits it without ever seeing the code.

What you get back is a site that belongs to the client, on an ordinary host, with pages that load faster and markup that search engines and AI assistants can read without digging through a framework.

With cmsspot the client gets Squarespace-style editing on a site they own outright.

Common questions

Does the client need to understand HTML?

No. The client sees fields: a heading, a paragraph, an image. The HTML is the developer's concern, and cmsspot keeps it out of sight.

Can the client add new pages?

Yes. A new page starts from a simple template, and the client fills in the fields. Adding it to the menu is a separate tab in the same tool.

What about templates and design changes?

Design changes are made in the code by whoever built the site, or in the Code tab in cmsspot if you want to do it yourself. The point is that the owner cannot break the layout by accident.
